চন্দননগর কলেজ মিউজিয়াম, হুগলি (Chandannagar College Museum, Hooghly)

পরাধীন ভারতের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের এক অন্যতম পীঠস্থান চন্দননগর। ফরাসি শাসন থেকে শুরু করে সশস্ত্র বিপ্লব... শহরের সেই গৌরবময় ইতিহাস এখন এক ছাদের নিচে, চন্দননগর কলেজের নিজস্ব মিউজিয়ামে। কলেজের অবস্থান স্ট্রাণ্ড রোডে জোড়াঘাটের কাছেই।

চন্দননগর কলেজটি একটি অনন্য একতলা ঔপনিবেশিক স্থাপত্য, যার আকর্ষণীয় গভীর বারান্দা দুটি টাস্কান স্তম্ভের ওপর দাঁড়িয়ে আছে। ১৮৬২ সালে ফ্রেয়ার্স ডি সেন্ট এসপিরিট মিশনের ফাদার এম. বার্থেট ‘একোল ডি সেন্ট মারি’ নামে এই শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। ১৮৮৭ সালে এটি চন্দননগর প্রশাসনের অধীনে এসে ‘একোল ডি গার্সোঁ’ (বালকদের স্কুল) নাম নেয়। ১৮৯১ সালে এটি ইন্টারমিডিয়েট স্তর পর্যন্ত উন্নীত হয়ে কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধিভুক্ত হয়। ১৯০১ সালে এর নাম হয় ‘ডুপ্লেক্স কলেজ’ (পরে কলেজ অফ বুসি)। বর্তমানে এই ঐতিহ্যবাহী কলেজটি বর্ধমান বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধিভুক্ত।

১৮৬২ সাল থেকে পথচলা এই কলেজ কানাইলাল দত্ত ও রাসবিহারী বসুর মতো বিপ্লবীদের স্মৃতি বহন করছে। ব্রিটিশ আমলে সরাসরি স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামে জড়িয়ে পড়ার অপরাধে ব্রিটিশ সরকার টানা ২৩ বছর এই কলেজ বন্ধ রেখেছিল। 

🔍 মিউজিয়ামে কী কী থাকছে?

কলেজের 'সেন্টার ফর হেরিটেজ স্টাডিজ'-এর উদ্যোগে গড়ে তোলা এই সংগ্রহশালায় ঠাঁই পেয়েছে—

✅ বিপ্লবীদের হাতে লেখা দুষ্প্রাপ্য চিঠি ও ব্রিটিশ পুলিশের গোপন রিপোর্ট।

✅ চরকা, ডিঙি নৌকা, প্রাচীন তাঁত ও টাইপ রাইটার।

✅ বিপ্লবীদের ছবি, মূর্তি এবং তৎকালীন সংবাদপত্রের কাটিং।

⏳ মিউজিয়াম খোলার সময়সূচী:

 প্রতি শনিবার এবং রবিবার, বিকেল ৪:০০ থেকে সন্ধ্যা ৭:০০ পর্যন্ত (গ্রীষ্মকালে বিকেল ৫:০০ থেকে রাত ৮:০০ পর্যন্ত)

Chandannagar is one of the pivotal centers of India's freedom struggle during the colonial era. From French rule to the era of armed revolution... the city's glorious history is now under one roof at the Chandannagar College Museum. The college is located on Strand Road, near Joraghat.

Chandannagar College is a unique single-story colonial structure, featuring an attractive, deep veranda supported by two Tuscan columns. In 1862, Father M. Barthet of the Frères du Saint-Esprit mission founded this educational institution as 'École de Sainte-Marie'. In 1887, it came under the administration of Chandannagar and was renamed 'École de Garçons' (Boys' School). In 1891, it was upgraded to the intermediate level and affiliated with the University of Calcutta. In 1901, it was named 'Dupleix College' (later College of Dupleix). Currently, this heritage college is affiliated with the University of Burdwan.

The college, which began its journey in 1862, carries the memories of revolutionaries like Kanailal Dutta and Rash Behari Bose. During the British era, the British government kept this college closed for 23 consecutive years for its direct involvement in the freedom struggle.

🔍 What is in the Museum?

Established under the initiative of the college's 'Centre for Heritage Studies', this museum houses:

✅ Rare handwritten letters by revolutionaries and confidential reports of the British police.

✅ Spinning wheels (charkhas), dinghy boats, ancient looms, and typewriters.

✅ Photographs and statues of revolutionaries, along with newspaper clippings from that era.

⏳ Museum Visiting Hours:

Every Saturday and Sunday, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM (during summer, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM).
